Farmers, Infrastructure in Focus as Assam Unveils Multi-Crore Development Push

Guwahati, February 23, 2026: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday launched key initiatives under the Mukhya Mantri Utkarsh Yojana (MMUY) and Samaveshi Aajeevika Yojana to enhance farmers’ productivity and livelihoods across the state.

During the programme, grants along with agricultural machinery and tools were distributed to Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs) and Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs). An amount of ₹120 crore was also disbursed under the Samabeshit Aajeevika Yojana and DAD-NRLM.

The event was attended by Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who handed over approval letters for roads and bridges under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana–IV. The Centre approved 528 roads and 62 bridges worth approximately ₹1,817 crore.

In addition, approvals and releases included an additional three crore person-days mandate and ₹1,100 crore under MGNREGA, ₹42 crore under the Pulses Mission, ₹40.5 crore for power tillers, ₹4.5 crore for the Digital Mission, and procurement approval for 62,500 metric tonnes of mustard.

The new building of Assam Seed Corporation Limited was inaugurated, and the Kisan Sarathi mobile app was launched to support farmers with digital access to agricultural services.

Praising Assam’s development trajectory, Chouhan said the state is writing a new chapter of progress, noting that Assam has constructed an average of 14 kilometres of roads daily over the past five years.

The announcements mark a significant push toward rural infrastructure, agricultural support, and inclusive economic growth in the state.
