Guwahati, February 23, 2026: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday launched a series of major initiatives under the Mukhya Mantri Utkarsh Yojana (MMUY) and Samaveshi Aajeevika Yojana, reinforcing the state government's commitment to strengthening agriculture, rural livelihoods, and infrastructure development. The programme, attended by Union Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, witnessed the announcement and distribution of several development projects and financial assistance aimed at improving farmers' incomes and boosting rural growth.
As part of the event, grants, agricultural machinery, and modern farming equipment were distributed to Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs) and Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) to enhance agricultural productivity and promote collective farming. The state government also disbursed ₹120 crore under the Samaveshi Aajeevika Yojana and the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana–National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM) to strengthen self-help groups and rural livelihood initiatives.
Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan handed over approval letters for 528 rural roads and 62 bridges sanctioned under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY)-IV, with a total investment of approximately ₹1,817 crore. The projects are expected to significantly improve connectivity in rural and remote areas across Assam.
The Centre also approved an additional three crore person-days under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) along with ₹1,100 crore in funding. Other approvals included ₹42 crore under the Pulses Mission, ₹40.5 crore for the distribution of power tillers, ₹4.5 crore under the Digital Mission, and procurement approval for 62,500 metric tonnes of mustard to support farmers and strengthen agricultural markets.

The programme also marked the inauguration of the new Assam Seed Corporation Limited building and the launch of the Kisan Sarathi mobile application, a digital platform designed to provide farmers with easy access to agricultural services, information, and government schemes.
Praising Assam's development, Shivraj Singh Chouhan said the state is setting new benchmarks in rural infrastructure and agricultural growth. He noted that Assam has built an average of 14 kilometres of roads every day over the past five years, reflecting its rapid pace of development.
The initiatives collectively represent a major push towards improving rural infrastructure, empowering farmers, promoting digital agriculture, and accelerating inclusive economic growth across Assam.
