Agartala, February 6: Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha on Friday held a meeting with representatives of the All Tripura ST NGOs to discuss issues related to the education, welfare and overall development of tribal students in the state. The interaction focused on strengthening cooperation between the government and civil society organisations to ensure better educational opportunities and a supportive environment for students belonging to Janajati communities.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister highlighted the significant role played by NGO-run boarding houses in supporting students from tribal and remote areas. He noted that nearly 20,000 students are currently enrolled in around 250 NGO-managed boarding houses across Tripura. These institutions, he said, have been making important contributions by providing accommodation, guidance and educational support to students who might otherwise face difficulties in accessing quality education.
Dr. Saha acknowledged the efforts of the NGOs in nurturing young minds and helping students pursue their academic goals. He stated that the state government has been extending assistance to these institutions from time to time and remains committed to continuing such support in the future.
“The development of our youth is one of the most important responsibilities before us. Education is the foundation upon which a strong and prosperous society is built, and we must work together to ensure that every student receives the opportunities they deserve,” the Chief Minister said.
Emphasising the importance of quality education and proper infrastructure, Dr. Saha noted that the future of Tripura depends largely on the development of its younger generation. He stressed that building successful careers for students is a collective responsibility involving the government, educational institutions, NGOs and society as a whole.
The Chief Minister urged NGO representatives to continue working with dedication and sensitivity while guiding tribal students. He called upon them to act as active partners in the state's developmental journey and contribute towards creating an environment that promotes learning, discipline, confidence and personal growth.
According to Dr. Saha, education remains one of the most effective tools for social and economic empowerment. He said that by ensuring access to quality education and supportive facilities, the state can help students overcome challenges and unlock their full potential. He also stressed the importance of mentoring, career guidance and value-based education in shaping responsible and capable citizens.
The meeting also discussed the need for stronger coordination between government departments and civil society organisations. The Chief Minister said that such collaboration is essential for addressing challenges faced by students, improving educational outcomes and ensuring that welfare schemes reach intended beneficiaries effectively.

Representatives of the All Tripura ST NGOs welcomed the Chief Minister’s assurance of continued support and appreciated the government's willingness to engage directly with stakeholders. They expressed their commitment to further strengthening coordination with the administration and working collectively to improve the educational environment for tribal students.
The NGO representatives also shared suggestions and concerns related to student welfare, hostel facilities and educational development. They emphasized the need for sustained support and collaborative efforts to ensure holistic growth and better opportunities for students residing in boarding institutions.
The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both the government and NGO representatives reaffirming their commitment to working together for the welfare of tribal students. Participants expressed confidence that stronger partnerships between the state and civil society would contribute significantly to educational advancement, social empowerment and the long-term development of Tripura’s Janajati communities.
