Imphal, February 6: The Manipur Police, in collaboration with the National Intelligence Grid (NATGRID) under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), organised a one-day training programme on Thursday at the auditorium of the New Manipur Police Headquarters in Mantripukhri. The programme aimed to enhance the capacity of police personnel in using advanced intelligence tools and strengthen coordination in intelligence gathering and criminal investigations.
The training programme was conducted in accordance with the directions of the Union Home Minister as part of ongoing efforts to modernise policing through the integration of technology-driven intelligence systems. The initiative sought to familiarise officers with the objectives, capabilities, and operational framework of the National Intelligence Grid (NATGRID), a secure information-sharing platform designed to assist law enforcement and intelligence agencies in combating crime, terrorism, and other threats to national security.
During the sessions, participants were introduced to the various features of the NATGRID platform and its role in facilitating real-time access to information from multiple government databases. Resource persons explained how the system enables authorised agencies to analyse data efficiently, improve inter-agency coordination, and support intelligence-led policing through faster access to critical information.
The programme placed particular emphasis on strengthening intelligence sharing, promoting data-driven investigations, and enhancing operational efficiency in tackling organised crime, terrorism, cybercrime, and other security-related challenges. Officers were also briefed on best practices for utilising technology to improve investigative capabilities while ensuring compliance with legal and procedural requirements.
Around 150 officers from different units of the Manipur Police participated in the training programme. While many officers attended the sessions in person at the headquarters in Mantripukhri, others joined through video conferencing, enabling wider participation from personnel posted across the state.
The NATGRID resource team comprised Dr. Saurabh Gupta, Advisor (Project NATGRID), Commander Jitesh P. Saini, Director, NATGRID, and Anup Kumar, Deputy Secretary, NATGRID. The experts delivered detailed presentations covering the technical architecture, operational applications, and strategic importance of the intelligence platform. They also shared practical insights into how the system can support police investigations by enabling timely access to relevant information and improving coordination among security agencies.

Senior officers of the Manipur Police, led by the Director General of Police (DGP), attended the programme and interacted with the NATGRID experts. The discussions highlighted the growing importance of leveraging technology and digital intelligence tools to strengthen policing, improve crime detection, and enhance overall internal security.
The training concluded with participants expressing appreciation for the valuable knowledge shared by the NATGRID team. Officials noted that such capacity-building initiatives would help equip police personnel with modern investigative tools and reinforce the state's preparedness to address evolving security challenges through intelligence-based policing and effective inter-agency collaboration.
The programme reflects the continued efforts of the Ministry of Home Affairs and Manipur Police to promote the use of advanced technology in law enforcement and ensure that officers remain equipped to meet the demands of modern policing.
