Agartala, February 26: In a significant step towards fostering innovation, entrepreneurship and technology-driven development, Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha on Thursday launched T-NEST (Tripura: Nurturing Entrepreneurship and Start-ups), described as India’s first State Innovation Mission. The initiative is expected to play a transformative role in building a vibrant startup ecosystem and positioning Tripura as an emerging hub for innovation in the Northeast.

The launch ceremony was held at the International Exhibition Centre, Hapania, in the presence of Union Minister of State Dr. Jitendra Singh, the Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog, senior government officials, entrepreneurs, innovators, students and industry representatives.
Supported by the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), T-NEST has been designed to create a comprehensive framework for nurturing entrepreneurship, supporting startups and encouraging the adoption of emerging technologies. The mission aims to provide aspiring entrepreneurs with access to mentorship, incubation support, networking opportunities and resources needed to transform innovative ideas into sustainable ventures.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Dr. Saha described the launch of T-NEST as a landmark moment in Tripura’s journey towards becoming a technology-driven and innovation-oriented state. He said the initiative reflects the government's commitment to empowering youth, promoting self-employment and creating new economic opportunities through innovation.
“T-NEST is not just a programme; it is a movement to inspire innovation, encourage entrepreneurship and create a future-ready ecosystem for our young minds. This initiative will help transform ideas into enterprises and aspirations into achievements,” the Chief Minister said.

Dr. Saha noted that entrepreneurship and innovation have become key drivers of economic growth across the world. He emphasized that Tripura's talented youth possess immense potential and that the government is committed to creating an environment where creativity and innovation can thrive.
The Chief Minister further stated that T-NEST will support startups working in diverse sectors, including information technology, agriculture, healthcare, education, renewable energy and digital services. By promoting innovation across multiple sectors, the mission aims to generate employment opportunities, attract investment and strengthen the state's economy.
Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh praised Tripura's initiative and highlighted the growing importance of innovation-led development in India's economic progress. He said startups and technology-driven enterprises are playing an increasingly important role in shaping the country's future and expressed confidence that T-NEST would contribute significantly to the entrepreneurial landscape of the Northeast.
Officials said the mission will focus on identifying promising ideas, supporting innovators and creating pathways for startups to scale their operations. The initiative will also encourage collaboration among educational institutions, industry leaders, researchers and government agencies to foster a culture of innovation.
The launch of T-NEST aligns with the broader vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, which emphasizes innovation, digital transformation and entrepreneurship as key pillars of national development. The mission is expected to complement ongoing efforts to improve digital infrastructure, skill development and technological adoption across Tripura.
Participants at the event welcomed the initiative, noting that access to structured support systems and mentorship is crucial for aspiring entrepreneurs.
