The launch programme was held at the Minister’s Office Chamber in the presence of officials from the Sports & Youth Services Department and the Mizoram State Sports Council.

Speaking at the event, the Minister said EMS is a key initiative aimed at identifying and nurturing sporting talent among children aged 8–15 years, particularly from remote areas, with a long-term vision of preparing Mizo youth for national and international competitions, including the 2036 Olympic Games.

EMS was initially launched on January 14, 2025 by Chief Minister Lalduhoma. The programme operates under the Mizoram Bana Kaih (Handholding) Scheme with a sanctioned budget of ₹2.5 crore.

Under EMS:

Children aged 8–15 will receive 15 days of basic coaching (45 hours total).

Training will focus on priority Olympic disciplines including Archery, Judo, Boxing, Hockey, Badminton, Taekwondo, Weightlifting and Wrestling.

District and State-level competitions will be conducted to identify top performers for advanced residential training.

The programme will follow a structured documentation, grading and feedback system.

The initiative will be implemented in Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode. The Government will provide coaches and equipment, while local communities will support logistics such as accommodation and food for coaches.

As part of broader sports development efforts, the Grassroots Sports Development Programme (GSDP) is being implemented in 46 centres across Mizoram, covering over 1,000 students aged 6–14 through a collaboration between the Mizoram State Sports Council and Samagra Shiksha Mizoram.

New Olympic-oriented disciplines have also been introduced in Tuipuiral and Tuichangral Games to strengthen competitive exposure at the school level.
