Highlighting the importance of the pond rejuvenation initiative, Dr. Saha said water bodies have historically played a vital role in community life and environmental conservation. He noted that many ponds and lakes across the state require restoration to improve water retention, prevent environmental degradation and support local ecosystems.
According to officials, the Rishi Para project includes cleaning and deepening of the pond, landscaping of surrounding areas, beautification measures and the creation of public amenities. Once completed, the rejuvenated pond is expected to serve as a recreational space for residents while also contributing to groundwater recharge and environmental sustainability.
The Chief Minister said the project is part of a broader effort to preserve natural resources and improve community infrastructure. He stressed that sustainable development must go hand in hand with environmental conservation and responsible resource management.
“Development is not only about constructing roads and buildings. It is also about protecting our environment, conserving water resources and creating healthy public spaces for future generations,” he said.
Dr. Saha further stated that the government is focusing on projects that combine infrastructure development with ecological benefits. He noted that restoring water bodies can help address issues related to water conservation, climate resilience and urban environmental management.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the government's vision of creating a cleaner, greener and more developed Tripura. He said several initiatives are being undertaken to improve civic amenities, strengthen local infrastructure and promote sustainable practices in both urban and rural areas.
Residents and local leaders welcomed the project, expressing hope that the rejuvenated pond would improve the area's appearance and provide a valuable community asset. Officials said similar initiatives may be undertaken in other parts of the state as part of efforts to preserve water bodies and enhance public spaces.
The launch of the Rishi Para pond rejuvenation and beautification project underscores the government's emphasis on sustainable development and community welfare. By combining environmental restoration with infrastructure improvement, the initiative aims to create long-term benefits for local residents while contributing to Tripura's broader development goals.
Dr. Saha concluded by reaffirming the government's commitment to delivering people-centric development and ensuring that the benefits of progress reach every corner of the state. He said the ongoing projects across Tripura are laying the foundation for a more prosperous, environmentally sustainable and inclusive future.
