Agartala, February 22, 2026: The first-ever Tripura State Games 2026 commenced with a grand inaugural ceremony at the Dasharath Deb State Sports Complex in Badharghat, marking a historic milestone in the state’s sporting journey.

The three-day mega event, organised by the Tripura Olympic Association, was formally inaugurated by Chief Minister Manik Saha in the presence of celebrated gymnast Dipa Karmakar and several distinguished guests.
More than 3,000 athletes from all eight districts of Tripura are participating in 18 disciplines, competing across multiple venues in the state from February 22 to 24. Events include athletics, hockey, handball, volleyball, judo, table tennis, boxing, basketball, badminton, gymnastics, triathlon, squash, weightlifting, golf, kabaddi, football, and kho-kho.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister described the launch of the State Games as a historic first for Tripura. He emphasized that the initiative would provide a structured platform to identify talented athletes from remote areas and prepare them for national and international competitions. He also expressed gratitude to the Tripura Olympic Association for spearheading the initiative.

The inaugural ceremony featured vibrant cultural performances celebrating Tripura’s heritage, adding colour and enthusiasm to the sporting extravaganza. Organising Secretary Sujit Ray urged sports enthusiasts across the state to attend the competitions and encourage the athletes.
The Tripura State Games 2026 aims to strengthen grassroots sports development, promote healthy competition, and build a robust sporting culture across the state. The event will conclude on February 24.
