According to the FIR registered at Badshahpur police station, the survivor had moved to Gurugram to pursue a BSc in Biotechnology at a private university and was staying in a paying guest accommodation in Sector 69. She reportedly met Shivam through a dating app in September 2025. The two entered into a relationship and later began living together, with plans to marry, as per her statement.
The survivor told police that the abuse began after Shivam started suspecting her of infidelity. On February 16, following an altercation, he allegedly assaulted her with a steel bottle and an earthen pot, smashed her head against a wall, poured sanitiser on her private parts and attempted to set them on fire. She further alleged that he inflicted knife injuries on her legs, recorded nude videos to blackmail her, and repeatedly threatened her.
Two days later, on February 18, the young woman managed to call her mother from the accused’s phone and informed her about the assault in Bengali. Her mother, a police personnel in Tripura, alerted authorities by dialling the 112 helpline. A Gurugram police team reached the location, rescued the survivor, and took Shivam into custody. She was initially admitted to a local hospital and later shifted to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi for advanced treatment.
Police have invoked sections 115, 118(1), 118(2), 127(2), 69 and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including charges related to wrongful confinement, voluntarily causing hurt, sexual intercourse by deceitful means, and criminal intimidation.

However, the survivor’s lawyer, Reena Rai, who represents North East cases in Delhi, alleged that the charges invoked are inadequate. She claimed that the survivor’s medical examination has confirmed rape and that the case warrants stronger sections, including attempt to murder and rape. Rai further alleged that the survivor was subjected to extreme physical and sexual violence and that efforts are being made to dilute the case.
The survivor’s family has demanded strict action and justice, calling for the strongest possible legal provisions to be applied against the accused.
Police have not yet issued a detailed public statement addressing the allegations regarding additional charges. Investigation is ongoing.
