Congress Releases First List of 24 Candidates for Garo Hills Autonomous District Council Polls

Shillong, February 23, 2026: The Indian National Congress has unveiled its first list of 24 candidates for the upcoming elections to the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), signalling the party’s early preparations for the crucial polls.

The candidate list was approved by Vincent H. Pala, president of the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), and released on Monday. The nominees will contest in multiple constituencies across the Garo Hills region, marking Congress’s organisational push ahead of the elections.

The GHADC elections, which are held under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution, play a significant role in local governance and administration in the tribal-dominated Garo Hills district. With several political parties gearing up for the polls, the release of the first list is expected to intensify political activity in the region.

9. Dengnakpara – Sadhirani M. Sangma

10. Boldamgre – Binvinchand D. Sangma

11. Zigzak – Premish S. Sangma

12. Betasing – Ajitav Koch
