Three Minor Boys Drown in Vengthar Society Lake, Buried Amid Grief in Thenzawl

Thenzawl, February 22: In a tragic incident that has plunged the town of Thenzawl into mourning, three minor boys lost their lives after drowning in Vengthar Society Lake on Saturday evening at around 6:00 pm.

According to sources, the children had stepped out of their homes earlier in the evening but did not return, prompting worried family members to launch a search. During the search, one of the boys’ friends informed the families that the trio had gone swimming in the lake. On reaching the spot, relatives found the children’s slippers lying near the water, raising immediate alarm.

A search operation was initiated soon after, and the bodies of the three boys were later retrieved from the lake. There were no eyewitnesses to the incident, and the exact circumstances surrounding the drowning remain unclear. Authorities are expected to conduct further inquiries into the matter.

An obituary notice issued by the Young Mizo Association (YMA) Vengthar Branch identified the deceased as H. Lalhriatluanga (9), son of H. Laldawngkima (Presbyterian Kohhran); Lalmuansanga (9), son of Pu Lalthangpuia (L) of Isua Krista Kohhran; and C. Lalbiakhluna (7), son of Lalfakzuala of Isua Krista Kohhran.

The bodies of the three boys were laid to rest today at 12 noon amid an outpouring of grief from family members, relatives, and residents. The heartbreaking loss has cast a pall of sorrow over Thenzawl, with the community coming together to extend condolences and support to the bereaved families during this difficult time.
