Three Minor Boys Drown in Vengthar Society Lake, Buried Amid Grief in Thenzawl

Thenzawl, February 22: A pall of grief has descended over Thenzawl following the tragic drowning of three young boys in Vengthar Society Lake on Saturday evening. The heartbreaking incident, which occurred at around 6:00 pm, has left families, friends, and the entire community mourning the loss of three young lives.

According to local sources, the children had left their homes earlier in the evening but failed to return at the usual time. Concerned family members began searching for them as darkness approached. During the search, a friend of the boys informed relatives that the three children had gone swimming in Vengthar Society Lake.

Alarmed by the information, family members and local residents rushed to the lake. Upon reaching the site, they discovered the boys’ slippers near the water’s edge, raising fears that they may have met with an accident. A search operation was immediately launched with the assistance of local volunteers and community members.

After an extensive search, the bodies of all three boys were recovered from the lake. There were no eyewitnesses to the incident, and the exact sequence of events leading to the tragedy remains unclear. Authorities are expected to conduct further inquiries to determine the circumstances surrounding the drowning.

An obituary notice issued by the Young Mizo Association (YMA) Vengthar Branch identified the deceased as H. Lalhriatluanga (9), son of H. Laldawngkima of Presbyterian Kohhran; Lalmuansanga (9), son of the late Lalthangpuia of Isua Krista Kohhran; and C. Lalbiakhluna (7), son of Lalfakzuala of Isua Krista Kohhran.

News of the tragedy spread quickly throughout the town, drawing an outpouring of sympathy and support from residents. Community leaders, church members, and local organisations joined the bereaved families in mourning the untimely deaths of the children.

The funeral service and burial of the three boys were held on Sunday at noon. Hundreds of mourners gathered to pay their final respects and offer condolences to the grieving families. Emotional scenes were witnessed as relatives, friends, classmates, and residents came together to bid farewell to the young boys.

The incident has shocked the community and renewed concerns about water safety, particularly for children. Residents have called for greater awareness and preventive measures to avoid similar tragedies in the future.

As Thenzawl mourns the loss of the three children, the community has united in solidarity, offering prayers, comfort, and support to the affected families during one of the most difficult moments in their lives.
