Mizoram Celebrates Statehood Day; Governor Highlights Connectivity and Education Milestones

Aizawl, February 20, 2026: Mizoram marked its Statehood Day on Thursday with Governor Gen. (Dr.) V.K. Singh highlighting the state’s remarkable transformation into a hub of connectivity, education, and disciplined civic life.

Addressing the people of the state, the Governor lauded the enduring success of the historic 1986 Peace Accord, describing it as the foundation of Mizoram’s sustained peace and progress.

He underscored major recent achievements, including the inauguration of the Bairabi-Sairang railway line in September 2025, which connected Aizawl to the national railway network. The development, he said, has contributed to a 139.5 per cent surge in tourism.

Governor Singh also celebrated a significant social milestone, noting that Mizoram was declared India’s first fully literate state in May 2025, achieving a literacy rate of 98.20 per cent. He further highlighted NITI Aayog’s recognition of Mizoram as the “Ginger Capital of India” for its organic produce.

Commending the state’s unique “no honking” traffic culture and strong civic sense, the Governor urged citizens to preserve their rich cultural heritage while strengthening Mizoram’s role as a key pillar in India’s Act East Policy.

The Statehood Day celebrations reflected pride in Mizoram’s journey of peace, progress, and people-driven development.
