The Governor paid tribute to the architects of the historic Mizoram Peace Accord of 1986, describing the agreement as a landmark event that laid the foundation for the state’s enduring peace and stability. He noted that the peace accord transformed Mizoram from a conflict-affected region into one of the most peaceful states in the country, creating the conditions necessary for sustained development and growth.
Highlighting recent infrastructure achievements, Governor Singh referred to the inauguration of the Bairabi–Sairang railway line in September 2025, a project that connected Aizawl to the national railway network for the first time. He described the railway link as a transformative development that has significantly improved connectivity, facilitated trade and travel, and strengthened Mizoram’s integration with the rest of the country.
The Governor stated that improved connectivity has also contributed to a substantial rise in tourism, with the state recording a 139.5 percent increase in tourist arrivals. He said the growing interest among visitors reflects the increasing recognition of Mizoram’s scenic beauty, rich culture, and peaceful environment.
Education was another key achievement highlighted in his address. Governor Singh noted that Mizoram was officially declared India’s first fully literate state in May 2025, attaining an impressive literacy rate of 98.20 percent. He described the accomplishment as a historic milestone that reflects the state’s long-standing commitment to education and human resource development.
The Governor also highlighted the state’s progress in agriculture, noting that NITI Aayog had recognised Mizoram as the “Ginger Capital of India” because of its significant contribution to organic ginger production. He said the recognition underscores the potential of Mizoram’s agricultural sector and the growing demand for its organic produce in national and international markets.

Commending the people of Mizoram for their discipline and civic consciousness, Governor Singh praised the state’s unique “no honking” traffic culture, which has become a symbol of mutual respect, patience, and responsible citizenship. He said such practices distinguish Mizoram and contribute to its reputation as one of the country’s most orderly and peaceful states.
The Governor urged citizens, especially the younger generation, to preserve and promote Mizoram’s rich cultural heritage while embracing innovation and development. He also emphasized the strategic importance of the state in India’s Act East Policy, noting that Mizoram’s geographical location offers significant opportunities for regional connectivity, trade, and cooperation with neighbouring countries.
As Mizoram observed another Statehood Day, the celebrations reflected a shared sense of pride in the state’s achievements and optimism about its future. The occasion served as a reminder of the progress made over the decades and the continued commitment of its people to peace, development, and inclusive growth.
