A respected public leader and three-time legislator, Valte had been undergoing prolonged medical treatment for nearly two years following the attack in Imphal, where he was critically assaulted while returning from the state secretariat. The incident left him with life-threatening injuries, prompting the Manipur Government to arrange an air ambulance to shift him to Delhi for advanced medical care.
During his lengthy treatment, Valte remained under intensive care at various hospitals, including an extended stay at Apollo Hospital, where he spent considerable time on life support. The attack resulted in severe neurological and physical impairments, requiring continuous rehabilitation, specialised treatment, and round-the-clock medical supervision.

Valte's demise marks the end of a long and painful struggle that became a symbol of the human cost of Manipur's ethnic conflict. Throughout his political career, he was widely regarded as a dedicated representative who worked for the welfare and development of the people of Thanlon and the hill districts.

Tributes have begun pouring in from across the state, honouring his contributions and expressing condolences to his bereaved family.
