Tawang, February 12: The second edition of the Tawangchu Tides International Kayaking Championship was flagged off on the Tawangchu River in the scenic Himalayan district of Tawang, drawing over 100 athletes from across India and abroad.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu inaugurated the high-altitude sporting event, describing it as a proud moment for Arunachal Pradesh. He welcomed the participating athletes and expressed appreciation to the Arunachal Olympic Association, Arunachal Kayaking & Canoeing Association (AKCA), Indian Kayaking & Canoeing Association (IKCA), the organising committee, Indian Army, SSB, district administration and other partners for ensuring the successful conduct of the championship.

The Chief Minister congratulated all participants and expressed hope that the championship would continue to grow in stature and inspire a new generation of sporting talent from the state.
The event was further marked by the presence of Bilquis Mir, India’s first female Olympic Jury Member in Kayaking & Canoeing. Khandu described her journey as an inspiration for youth, highlighting that determination and dedication can lead to participation at the highest international sporting platforms.
Set against the majestic backdrop of the Himalayas, the Tawangchu Tides Championship continues to position Arunachal Pradesh as an emerging destination for adventure sports and international competitions.
