NACWC Chairperson Holds Interactive Session with Entrepreneurs in Gangtok

Gangtok, February 12 (IPR): Chairperson of the National Authority Chemical Weapons Convention (NACWC), Cabinet Secretariat, Government of India, Roli Singh, held an interactive session with entrepreneurs in Gangtok today. The programme was facilitated by the Commerce & Industries Department, Government of Sikkim.

The session was attended by Dr. Raj Lama, President of SEED Cell, along with its members and local entrepreneurs representing ventures such as Cozy Apparel, Mevedir (Himalaya Fresh), Agapi, Zhimmey Cloud Kitchen, D Gyals Creation, and Our Guest Travels.

Senior officials present included Secretary, Commerce & Industries Department, Ms Karma D Yutso; Principal Chief Architect-cum-Secretary, Urban Development Department, Ms Yogeeta Rai; Joint Secretary, UDD, Mr Girdhari L. Meena; and Special Secretary-cum-Director, Commerce & Industries Department, Ms Choden Gyatso.

During the interaction, entrepreneurs presented their business models and shared experiences of operating in Sikkim. Discussions focused on ease of doing business and the need to create a more supportive, entrepreneur-friendly ecosystem in the state.

Ms Singh encouraged participants to explore emerging opportunities across sectors, highlighting tourism as a key growth area. She noted that homestays have a multiplier effect, benefiting local communities at multiple levels. Emphasising sustainable development, she urged stakeholders to work in harmony with nature and pointed out that agriculture and horticulture continue to hold strong potential for Sikkim.

She also encouraged entrepreneurs to make optimum use of Central and State government schemes to strengthen their ventures and expand market linkages. In her concluding remarks, the Chairperson appreciated the innovation and initiatives demonstrated by Sikkim’s entrepreneurial community and assured them that their suggestions would be taken into consideration.

The session concluded with a shared commitment to strengthening institutional support, simplifying processes, and promoting sustainable, locally-driven enterprises to accelerate inclusive economic growth in Sikkim.
