Second Convocation of Medhavi Skills University Held in Gangtok

Gangtok, February 25: The second convocation ceremony of Medhavi Skills University was held at Manan Kendra in Gangtok on Tuesday, with Sonam Tshering Venchungpa, Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee-cum-MLA, attending as Chief Guest.

The ceremony began with a formal academic procession, followed by the presentation of the convocation report by Pro Vice Chancellor Dr. Ashwini Kumar, who highlighted the university’s academic achievements and institutional progress.

Addressing the gathering, Sonam T. Venchungpa congratulated the graduating students, describing the convocation as a significant milestone in their academic and personal journey. He urged graduates to embrace innovation and adapt to a rapidly changing world, emphasising the importance of moral values and integrity alongside knowledge and skills.

Encouraging students, particularly from Sikkim, to explore opportunities beyond their comfort zones, he advised them to gain wider exposure and contribute to the development of the State and the nation.

During the ceremony, the university conferred Doctor of Literature (D.Litt.) Honoris Causa upon Jai Singh Bainsla, Additional Director General of Assam Rifles, and Raj Kumar Yadav, Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Women, Child, Senior Citizen and Divyangjan Welfare Department, Government of Sikkim.

Accepting the honour, Major General Bainsla described it as a tribute to personnel in uniform dedicated to national service. Reflecting on his 36 years of service in the Indian Army and Assam Rifles, he stressed that success stems from both competence and character. He encouraged graduates to combine skill-based education with discipline, resilience, and integrity.

Chancellor Pravesh Dudani highlighted the university’s establishment in 2021 with a vision to deliver industry-relevant, skill-integrated education. He noted that the institution’s work-integrated education model and strong industry collaborations have enhanced employability and enabled students to excel in national and international skill competitions.

Pro Chancellor Kuldip Sarma underscored the importance of the National Education Policy 2020 in promoting skill-oriented learning and preparing youth for global opportunities.

During the ceremony, achievers of WorldSkills Asia and IndiaSkills regional competitions were honoured, degrees were conferred upon successful candidates, and twelve gold medals were awarded to outstanding graduates. The event also witnessed the exchange of Memoranda of Understanding with several industry partners to strengthen industry-academia collaboration.

The programme concluded with a pledge by graduates, vote of thanks, and the singing of the National Anthem, in the presence of dignitaries, industry partners, parents, and faculty members.
