Imphal, February 9: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Monday assured that the state government would ensure the safety and security of every person from the Kuki-Zo community visiting the state capital, Imphal, including medical care, amid continuing ethnic tensions.

Addressing a public function, the Chief Minister said the government would not allow any harm to come to members of the Kuki-Zo community in Imphal, where the Meitei community forms the majority. He further assured that the state would take full responsibility for their safety, including providing necessary medical treatment whenever required.
The assurance was made while Singh flagged off a key infrastructure project titled “Strengthening of existing pavement from km 0.00 to km 15.35 and km 30.00 to km 45.00 of NH-137A (Imphal–Kakching Lamkhai section)”, which has been sanctioned by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), Government of India.
Expressing hope that the project would be completed within the stipulated timeframe, the Chief Minister said he had full faith in the sincerity of the contractors. He, however, directed them to maintain strict quality standards and ensure timely completion of the work.

Referring to recent developments, Singh said Churachandpur MLA Vungzagin Valte had contacted him a day earlier to congratulate him and to express his willingness to assist in restoring peace in the state. The Chief Minister added that Valte’s son later sought medical assistance for the legislator.
Singh extended his best wishes for Valte’s speedy recovery, referring to the airlifting of the Thanlon Assembly Constituency MLA from Bir Tikendrajit International Airport to New Delhi on Sunday for advanced medical treatment.
The Chief Minister said the newly formed government would accord top priority to the resettlement of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and the restoration of peace and normalcy across Manipur. He appealed to the public for cooperation and support in rebuilding trust and harmony in the state.
