Gangtok, February 9: Ananta Theatre Gangtok on Monday announced the launch of ‘Sikkim Comedy War’, a state-wide comedy talent competition aimed at providing a creative platform for young comedians in Sikkim.

The announcement was made at a press conference held at the Press Club of Sikkim, Metropoint, Gangtok, by Tashi Tshering Bhutia, Chairman of the Sikkim Music, Drama, Dance and Film Board and Chief Patron of the event. Addressing the media, Bhutia stressed the importance of nurturing youth talent and encouraging creative expression through comedy.
He thanked Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang for supporting initiatives that motivate content creators and young artists to showcase their abilities. Emphasising the power of humour rooted in local culture, Bhutia said comedy is an effective medium for communication, social awareness and cultural expression. He also lauded Ananta Theatre Gangtok for creating a structured and meaningful platform for aspiring performers across the state.
CEO of Ananta Theatre Gangtok, Bhupal Siwa, said the competition is being organised under the guidance and inspiration of the Chief Minister. He informed that ‘Sikkim Comedy War’ is open to comedians from across Sikkim and will feature both online and physical auditions, mono and duo performances, professional workshops, semi-finals and a grand finale. Online auditions will begin from February 10, 2026.

Head of Sikkim Comedy War and Comedy Champion Nepal semifinalist Biren Pradhan said the theme of the competition is “Laughter with a Purpose.” He assured transparency, professional mentorship and fair evaluation throughout the event. He added that performances would reflect the social realities of Sikkimese society, with the initiative aimed at empowering young voices, reviving local humour and promoting meaningful cultural content that blends entertainment with social responsibility.
Organisers said the competition is expected to boost Sikkim’s entertainment ecosystem and encourage culturally relevant comedy among the state’s youth.
