Nagaland: NSCN-K Issues Statement Against YA-JL Faction

Dimapur, February 21: The Ministry of Information and Publicity (MIP), GPRN, under the NSCN-K (Ang Mai-led) has issued a detailed press statement responding to what it termed as “false and fabricated allegations” against its leadership and outlining its position regarding the NSCN-YA/NSCN-YA-JL group led by Yung Aung and Joseph Lamkang.

Nagaland NSCN-K Issues Statement Against YA-JL Faction

In the statement dated February 21, the Ang Mai-led faction stated that repeated efforts were made through church leaders, civil society organisations and emissaries to resolve differences with Yung Aung through dialogue. However, it alleged that constructive engagement was not reciprocated.

The statement further claimed that following the demise of former Chairman S.S. Khaplang, internal developments led to divisions within the organisation. It accused the YA-JL group of functioning in an “unconstitutional manner” and departing from the collective leadership model that previously guided the organisation.

The NSCN-K also alleged that certain actions and policy positions adopted by the YA-JL faction were contrary to the vision of late Chairman Khaplang and had weakened the organisation’s influence and unity over the years.

Additionally, the statement referred to recent media reports questioning the identity and background of Yung Aung, urging concerned individuals to ascertain the truth on the matter. It also criticised the YA-JL group’s stance on issues such as the Stilwell Road project and ceasefire arrangements with the Myanmar government, claiming these positions could impact development prospects in Naga-inhabited areas of Myanmar.

The press statement concluded by asserting that the policies and actions of the YA-JL faction risk affecting the broader interests and progress of the Naga people in Myanmar. The statement was issued by the MIP, GPRN.
