Arunachal: NSCN-IM Militant Held as Joint Forces Foil Terror Plot in Longding

Longding, February 21, 2026: In a coordinated counter-insurgency operation, joint security forces foiled an alleged terror plot in Arunachal Pradesh’s Longding district and apprehended one NSCN-IM militant.

Acting on specific intelligence inputs, a joint team comprising the Assam Rifles, Special Task Force (STF), and Longding District Police launched an operation at Tissing near Zedua village under Longding Police Station. During the operation, a self-styled ‘Captain’ identified as Ponglem Wangpan (35) was arrested.

Security personnel recovered one 5.56 mm INSAS rifle with a magazine, one 9 mm pistol with a magazine, 18 rounds of 5.56 mm ammunition, and two rounds of 9 mm ammunition from his possession. An FIR has been registered, and further investigation is underway.

According to official sources, the arrested militant was allegedly leading a four-member group that had infiltrated the bordering district with plans to kidnap or assassinate an undisclosed target. Authorities said the timely intervention and coordination among the forces prevented the plan from materialising.

Security agencies have intensified search and combing operations in suspected areas to trace the remaining members of the group.

Officials stated that the operation reflects the continued vigilance and commitment of security forces in maintaining peace and stability in the region.
