NACWC Chairperson Concludes Sikkim Visit, Stresses Citizen-Centric Reforms

Gangtok, February 13: Roli Singh, Chairperson of the National Authority Chemical Weapons Convention (NACWC) under the Cabinet Secretariat, Government of India, concluded her official visit to Sikkim on Thursday after holding a series of high-level review meetings aimed at advancing governance reforms, reducing regulatory burdens, and promoting a more citizen-friendly administrative framework.

During her stay in Gangtok, the NACWC Chairperson met with senior officials of the Government of Sikkim to review the progress of the Deregulation and Compliance Reduction exercise. The discussions focused on simplifying government procedures, improving ease of doing business, and creating an efficient regulatory environment that benefits both citizens and businesses.

Addressing the officials, Roli Singh highlighted the need for meaningful and measurable governance reforms that go beyond procedural changes. She stressed the importance of strengthening inter-departmental coordination to eliminate unnecessary regulatory hurdles, reduce compliance burdens, and improve the delivery of public services. She observed that transparent, efficient, and responsive governance is essential for fostering public trust and supporting economic growth.

The Chairperson also encouraged government departments to adopt a long-term perspective while framing policies and administrative processes. She urged officials to consider the aspirations and evolving needs of future entrepreneurs, professionals, investors, and citizens so that governance systems remain relevant, inclusive, and capable of supporting sustainable development.

The review meetings were attended by Kuldeep Kumar, Assistant Director at the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), who accompanied the Chairperson during her visit. Together, they engaged with state officials on identifying opportunities to streamline regulatory frameworks, improve institutional efficiency, and create a business-friendly ecosystem in line with the Government of India's reform agenda.

Officials said the visit forms part of the Centre's ongoing nationwide initiative to strengthen governance by reducing unnecessary regulations, simplifying compliance requirements, and encouraging states to adopt best administrative practices. Such reforms are expected to facilitate investment, promote entrepreneurship, and enhance service delivery across sectors.

The Government of Sikkim reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the deregulation and compliance reduction initiative and expressed its willingness to work closely with the Centre in implementing reforms that improve governance while ensuring greater convenience for citizens and businesses alike. The visit is expected to provide further momentum to Sikkim's efforts to build a transparent, efficient, and future-ready administrative system.
