Imphal, February 5: Olympic medallist Saikhom Mirabai Chanu once again brought glory to Manipur and the nation by setting three national records at the National Weightlifting Championships 2026.
Competing in the women’s 48 kg category, Mirabai Chanu dominated the field to clinch the gold medal, setting three national records across all lifts. She lifted 89 kg in the snatch, 116 kg in the clean and jerk, and registered an overall total of 205 kg, underlining her supremacy in the category.
The achievement has been hailed as a proud moment for Manipur, a state renowned for producing world-class sportspersons, particularly in weightlifting. Mirabai Chanu’s success further highlights the state’s deep-rooted sporting culture and its continued contribution to Indian sports.
