To commemorate the occasion, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma ceremonially unveiled the UNESCO World Heritage recognition plaque at the Moidam complex in Charaideo. The event was attended by senior government officials, historians, cultural scholars, and members of the local community, who hailed the recognition as a proud moment for Assam and the entire Northeast.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister described the UNESCO inscription as global recognition of Assam's rich civilisational history and unique cultural identity. Referring to the Moidams as the "Pyramids of Assam," he said the royal burial mounds stand as enduring symbols of the spiritual beliefs, architectural brilliance, and administrative excellence of the Ahom dynasty, which ruled large parts of the region for more than six centuries.

Dr. Sarma said the international recognition would not only preserve the historical significance of the Moidams but also introduce Assam's cultural heritage to a wider global audience. He emphasized that the UNESCO tag would help promote cultural tourism, academic research, and archaeological studies while strengthening the state's position as a major heritage destination.

To ensure the long-term protection of the site, the Chief Minister proposed several conservation measures, including enhanced archaeological research, regular maintenance and restoration work, the creation of protective buffer zones around the monuments, and active participation of local communities in heritage management. He stressed that sustainable conservation must balance preservation with responsible development.
