According to a press statement issued by the village authority, the incidents occurred around 12:30 PM on February 23. The authority claimed that individuals travelling in a white Bolero vehicle from the Leplen side towards Lapharak (Kuki village) deliberately set fire to portions of the Lungter Hill Range under Sinaikeithei’s jurisdiction.
The authority termed the act not as an isolated incident but a “calculated strategy,” alleging that the fire was intentionally set to create confusion and facilitate the movement and activities of the armed group in and around the area.
The statement further alleged that Mr. Aseng Awungshi was abducted at Lungter foothills by members of the Kuki armed group. He was reportedly taken to an upstream location, physically assaulted, questioned about security forces, and warned not to move freely in the area.
In another incident the same day, the authority alleged that Mr. Kingson Muwah was fired upon while fleeing after being ordered to stop. Though no injuries were reported, the firing allegedly caused panic among villagers.

The authority has urged the concerned civil administration and security forces to immediately conduct a thorough investigation, ensure adequate protection, and prevent further escalation.
