Imphal, February 8: Security forces continued intensive search operations and area domination exercises across vulnerable and fringe areas of Manipur, leading to the recovery of a large cache of arms, ammunition and explosives from multiple districts, police said on Sunday.

According to Manipur Police, as part of enhanced security measures, 114 nakas and checkpoints were set up across hill and valley districts. No detentions were reported during these operations.
In a major recovery on February 8, 2026, security forces seized weapons and explosives from Molnom–Molnoi village and adjoining areas under Tengnoupal Police Station in Tengnoupal district. The recovered items included one AK rifle, one pistol, two improvised mortars, one single-barrel rifle, two live improvised mortar bombs, ten rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition, and 14 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) along with wire bundles. Police said the IEDs were safely disposed of at the spot following standard operating procedures.
Earlier, on February 7, 2026, another operation in the general areas of Lenglong and Taikhang under Nungba Police Station in Noney district resulted in the recovery of a significant arms cache. Items seized included one 7.62 mm AK-47 rifle with magazine, one US Carbine M2 with magazine, one .22 pistol with magazine, and one DJI drone. Ammunition recovered from the site comprised four 8 mm blank rounds, 17 rounds of 5.56 mm ammunition, 39 rounds of 7.62 mm AK-47 ammunition, eight 9 mm carbine ball rounds, nine rounds of 7.62 mm SLR ammunition, and seven 12-bore cartridges. Two Baofeng wireless communication sets were also recovered.

Police officials said the recoveries underline the continuing security challenges in the state and reaffirmed that coordinated operations would be sustained to prevent the movement of arms and explosives, maintain law and order, and ensure public safety.
Authorities have urged citizens to cooperate with security agencies and report any suspicious activity, reiterating that proactive intelligence and community support remain crucial to stabilising the situation in the state.
