Imphal, February 8: Security forces led by Manipur Police destroyed approximately 27 acres of illegal poppy plantations during an operation carried out on February 8, 2026, in the Awlmun, Songlung and Lhangjol areas under Kangchup Police Station in Kangpokpi district.

According to an official statement issued by Manipur Police, the destruction drive also led to the demolition of five huts found at the plantation sites. Security personnel further recovered three sacks of salt, five bags of fertiliser, and a two-wheeler Kenbo motorcycle during the operation.
The action forms part of the state’s ongoing efforts to curb illegal poppy cultivation and dismantle infrastructure supporting narcotics production in hill districts. Authorities said such drives would continue as part of a sustained campaign against drug-related activities, which pose serious social and security challenges.
