Kuki-Zo Council Cautions Government, Private Employees Over Postings in Meitei Areas

Churachandpur, February 8: The Kuki-Zo Council (KZC) has issued a public advisory cautioning Kuki-Zo community members employed under the state and central governments, as well as private institutions, against travelling to or accepting postings in Meitei-dominated areas, citing ongoing security risks and the absence of a political settlement.

In a press release dated February 8, 2026, the Council stated that the conflict between the Kuki-Zo people and the Meitei community remains unresolved, with no mutually agreed political solution or formal mechanism in place to guarantee safety and security. It warned that the situation on the ground continues to be “fragile, tense, and unpredictable.”

The advisory comes in the wake of the installation of a new Meitei-led government in Manipur, which, according to the KZC, raises the likelihood of Kuki-Zo employees being directed or transferred to serve in Meitei-dominated areas. In this context, the Council strongly advised employees - whether under government departments, public sector undertakings, or private institutions - not to travel to, report for duty, or accept postings in such areas, even if officially instructed to do so.

Emphasising that the advisory was issued purely in the interest of safeguarding human life, the KZC stated that no official duty or administrative order was worth risking personal safety at this critical juncture. It noted that in the absence of a credible political resolution or mutually accepted agreement, safe movement and coexistence could not be assured.

The Council also urged authorities to acknowledge the prevailing realities and act responsibly to ensure that lives are not put at risk. Until peace is restored through justice and a lasting political settlement, it called upon all concerned to exercise utmost caution.
