Manipur Police Arrest Militants, Recover Arms in Statewide Operations

Imphal, February 19: Security forces in Manipur carried out coordinated search and area domination operations across multiple districts on Wednesday, resulting in the arrest of militant cadres and recovery of arms and ammunition.

According to Manipur Police, two active extortionist cadres of the Revolutionary People's Front/People's Liberation Army (RPF/PLA) were arrested from different locations.

Thounaojam Prempatra Singh alias Luwang (31) was apprehended from Singjamei Chinga Makha under Singjamei Police Station in Imphal West district, while Tharoijam Tony Singh (32) was arrested from the Porompat area under Porompat Police Station in Imphal East district. Security personnel seized a 9 mm pistol with magazine, four live rounds, a Honda Activa scooter, two mobile phones, a sling bag and two wallets from their possession.

In another operation, an extortionist cadre of People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK-PRO), identified as Ningthoujam Kennedy (41) alias Guli alias Angousana, was arrested from Khewa Bazar under Porompat Police Station in Imphal East district. A mobile phone and Aadhaar card were seized from him.

Security forces also arrested an active cadre of the United People's Party of Kangleipak (UPPK), Khoisnam Morendrajit Singh alias Kumar (42), from Malom Tulihal Makha Leikai under Nambol Police Station in Bishnupur district. A mobile phone and Aadhaar card were recovered.

Meanwhile, a cache of arms and explosives was recovered from Keirak Awang Loukon Chingol area under Kakching Police Station in Kakching district. The items seized included an Amogh carbine with magazine, locally made guns, tear smoke shells, tube launching devices, .36 HE grenades with detonators, ammunition, empty cases, IDL explosives, helmets, a bulletproof jacket and magazine pouches.

Police stated that search operations and intensified naka/checkpoint deployments will continue across hill and valley districts to curb militant and extortion activities.
