Kuki Liberation Army–Letkholun warns Kuki-Zo MLAs against joining Manipur government

Imphal, Feb 4: The Kuki Liberation Army–Letkholun (KLA-L) on Tuesday issued a press communiqué asserting that no Kuki-Zo MLA has the mandate to participate in the formation of a “popular government” in Manipur under the present circumstances.

In the statement, the group said its position of non-participation is a unified political decision reflecting what it described as sustained injustice, persecution and a breakdown of trust in the existing administrative and political framework of the state. Any move by elected representatives to bypass what it termed the collective will of the Kuki-Zo people would amount to defiance of that mandate, it added.

The KLA-L further warned that any Kuki-Zo MLA who chooses to take part in government formation would be deemed to have acted in a personal capacity, without the consent or moral authority of the people they claim to represent. The group said it would initiate political, organisational and disciplinary measures against individuals who defy the collective decision.

The communiqué also stated that responsibility for any adverse developments arising from such participation would rest solely with the concerned MLAs. Reiterating its stance, the KLA-L said it would not tolerate what it described as political opportunism or personal ambition overriding collective dignity, justice and survival.

The statement was issued by the organisation’s Secretary, Information and Publicity, and comes amid heightened political activity in Manipur following recent developments related to government formation in the state.
