Williamnagar, February 13: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Thursday inaugurated the newly constructed District Emporium at Williamnagar in East Garo Hills. The facility is located within the premises of the District Commerce & Industries Centre.

Describing the emporium as a significant step toward promoting local enterprise, the Chief Minister said it will strengthen the livelihoods of artisans, weavers, self-help groups and small entrepreneurs in the district. The project was established under the District Mineral Foundation (DMF) Scheme, with ₹27 lakh sanctioned in 2025 for its construction.

Sangma stated that the emporium will serve as a dedicated platform to showcase and market indigenous products from East Garo Hills, thereby improving market access and encouraging entrepreneurship. He expressed confidence that the initiative will contribute meaningfully to the district’s economic growth and urged citizens to continue supporting and taking pride in local products.
Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister also attended the St. Joseph’s Sodality Convention at Williamnagar. He said he felt blessed to participate in the gathering and prayed that the Church continues to guide its faithful in service to humanity while promoting faith, peace and brotherhood.
