Guwahati, January 20: Assam is set to add a major landmark to its cultural infrastructure with the formal dedication of the Sri Sri Damodardev International Auditorium to the public on January 27, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Tuesday.

The newly constructed auditorium, located within the premises of the Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra in Guwahati, has a seating capacity of 800 and is expected to emerge as one of the state's premier venues for cultural, literary, academic, and artistic events. The facility has been designed to host large-scale performances, conferences, seminars, and national and international cultural programmes.
Announcing the development, the Chief Minister said the inauguration of the auditorium marks another significant milestone in the Assam Government's efforts to strengthen the state's cultural ecosystem and preserve its rich artistic heritage. He noted that the new facility would provide artists, performers, scholars, and cultural organisations with a modern platform to showcase Assam's diverse traditions while encouraging greater cultural exchange.
Situated within Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra, one of Assam's most prominent centres dedicated to art, culture, and history, the auditorium is expected to complement the existing infrastructure and enhance the institution's role as a hub for cultural activities. Officials believe the addition of the world-class venue will enable the Kalakshetra to host larger events and attract national and international audiences.

The auditorium has been named after Sri Sri Damodardev, one of Assam's revered Vaishnavite saints and religious reformers, in recognition of his enduring contribution to the state's spiritual and cultural heritage.
According to government officials, the facility is equipped with modern amenities and advanced technical infrastructure to support high-quality performances and public events. It is expected to become a preferred venue for theatre productions, music concerts, dance festivals, literary gatherings, educational programmes, and official functions.
The dedication of the Sri Sri Damodardev International Auditorium reflects the Assam Government's continued investment in cultural infrastructure and its commitment to promoting the state's artistic legacy. The new facility is also expected to boost cultural tourism, encourage creative expression, and further establish Guwahati as one of Northeast India's leading centres for arts and culture.
