Kohima Press Club Marks Silver Jubilee with Northeast Media Conclave

Kohima, January 20: The Kohima Press Club (KPC) on Tuesday celebrated its Silver Jubilee at the Capital Convention Centre, marking 25 years of service to journalism and the media fraternity in Nagaland. The milestone event brought together journalists, editors, media professionals and stakeholders from across the Northeast to reflect on the evolving role of journalism and the challenges facing the profession in a rapidly changing media environment.

As part of the Silver Jubilee celebrations, the Kohima Press Club organised the Northeast Media Conclave under the theme, “Reimagining Truth: Northeast Journalism for a Changing World.” The conclave served as a platform for meaningful discussions on the future of journalism, media ethics, misinformation and the responsibilities of journalists in the digital age.

The first session of the conclave focused on “Evolving Nature of Media: Ethics under Pressure & Strengthening Credibility in the Age of Misinformation.” Participants deliberated on the increasing influence of social media, the rapid spread of misinformation and disinformation, and the growing need for credible, fact-based journalism. Discussions also explored the ethical challenges faced by journalists amid political, commercial and technological pressures, and the importance of maintaining public trust in media institutions.

Several distinguished journalists and media leaders from across the Northeast shared their perspectives during the session. Among them were veteran journalist Monalisa Changkija from Nagaland, senior journalist Pradip Phanjoubam from Manipur, Geetartha Pathak representing the Indian Journalists Union, renowned television journalist Karma Paljor from Sikkim, and Raymond Kharmujai from Meghalaya. Drawing from their experiences, the speakers highlighted the importance of ethical reporting, professional integrity and responsible use of digital platforms in combating misinformation.

The session was moderated by Medolenuo Ambrocia Loucii of the Kohima Press Club, who guided discussions on the changing dynamics of journalism and the need for stronger regional media collaboration.
