Aizawl, January 20: The Organising Committee for Chapchar Kut 2026, headed by Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma, convened a key meeting at the Chief Minister’s Conference Hall in Aizawl on Monday to finalise preparations for the State’s premier cultural festival.

The committee approved a comprehensive programme for Chapchar Kut 2026, which will be celebrated over a week. The festivities will commence on March 9, 2026 (Monday) with the traditional Kut Run, marking the formal beginning of the celebrations. As in previous years, the Central Young Mizo Association (YMA) will manage the event, including arrangements for commemorative T-shirts.
On March 10, exhibitions related to Handloom, Textile and Handicrafts, along with Food Processing displays and a Food Court, will be inaugurated, with venues to be finalised. On the same day, a Flower Show will open at the Aijal Club Lawn.
Cultural and creative events will continue on March 11 with Painting and Photo Exhibitions, as well as a Chapchar Kut Film Show at Vanapa Hall and Lianchhiri Run. Additionally, a Living Museum showcasing traditional Mizo life will be organised at Falkawn village on March 11 and 12.
The main celebration will be held on March 13 (Friday) at Lammual, beginning at 10:30 am and lasting approximately six hours. Chief Minister Lalduhoma will attend as Kut Pa (Chief Guest), while Art and Culture Minister C. Lalsawivunga will be the guest of honour. The organisers have also resolved to observe a Garbage Free Kut, promoting environmental responsibility.

The theme for Chapchar Kut 2026 has been finalised as “Zo nun ze mawi – Inremna”, emphasising Mizo values, beauty of life and harmony.
From this year onwards, the Chief Minister’s Award (Nopui) will also be instituted as part of the celebrations. The committee has selected the first recipients from among the nominations received. The award will carry a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh, along with a citation and a memento.
The meeting reaffirmed the government’s commitment to preserving Mizo cultural heritage while promoting unity, sustainability and inclusive participation through Chapchar Kut 2026.
