Pakyong, Jan 27: In response to growing concerns over damages allegedly caused by ongoing railway construction activities in the Rangpo belt, MLA of West Pendam and Advisor to the Information & Public Relations Department (IPRD), Land Revenue & Disaster Management, and Information Technology Departments, LB Das, on Tuesday chaired a high-level review meeting at the District Collector's Office in Pakyong.

The meeting focused on addressing complaints from residents of Mazitar Daragaon, Zitlang, and other adjoining areas, where construction work being undertaken by the Indian Railway Construction International Limited (IRCON) has reportedly caused damage to private properties and public infrastructure. The review meeting brought together senior district officials and railway authorities to assess the situation and chart a way forward.
Among those present were the District Collector of Pakyong, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (Headquarters), the Revenue Officer from Rangpo Sub-Division, the Chief General Manager and Joint General Manager of IRCON, along with other concerned officials.
During the discussions, officials reviewed grievances submitted by local residents, particularly regarding structural damage to residential houses, cracks in buildings, and disruption of water supply pipelines allegedly resulting from the railway construction works. Residents have expressed concern over the impact of the ongoing project on their safety, livelihoods, and access to essential services.
Taking serious note of the complaints, LB Das directed that a comprehensive joint inspection be carried out to determine the actual extent of the damage in all affected areas. He stressed the importance of conducting an impartial assessment so that appropriate remedial measures could be taken based on verified findings.

It was decided during the meeting that the joint inspection would be conducted on February 5 in the presence of the MLA, IRCON officials, representatives from the SDM Rangpo office, the Mines & Geology Department, and the Public Health Engineering Department. The multi-departmental inspection is expected to provide a detailed assessment of the damage and recommend suitable corrective measures.
Officials further informed that a follow-up meeting would be convened after the inspection to review the findings and decide on the next course of action. The administration reiterated its commitment to addressing the concerns of affected residents while ensuring that infrastructure development proceeds responsibly, with due regard for public safety and environmental safeguads.
