Sikkim Launches Premium Dark Chocolates Showcasing Local Produce on Republic Day

Gangtok, Jan 26: Marking the 77th Republic Day of India and the golden jubilee of Sikkim’s Statehood, the Government of Sikkim on Sunday unveiled an initiative highlighting value addition to local agriculture with the launch of three premium dark chocolate products.

The chocolates were launched by the Government Fruit Preservation Factory (GFPF) under the Commerce & Industries Department in the presence of the Om Prakash Mathur, Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, senior officials and representatives of the department.

The newly introduced products include Sikkim Mandarin Orange Dark Chocolate (55% cocoa), Dalle Chilli Dark Chocolate (47% cocoa), and Large Cardamom Dark Chocolate (47% cocoa). Each variant draws from Sikkim’s distinctive agricultural produce, including GI-tagged Dalle Chilli and Large Cardamom, both renowned for their quality and global recognition.

Officials said the initiative reflects the state’s commitment to supporting farmers, preserving traditional knowledge, and creating sustainable economic opportunities through innovation and value addition. The chocolates aim to blend Sikkim’s rich agricultural heritage with contemporary food processing practices.

As Sikkim celebrates 50 years of Statehood, the launch was described as a symbol of inclusive growth and self-reliance, aligning with the state’s vision of “Sunawlo, Samriddhi ani Samartha Sikkim,” or a golden, prosperous and empowered Sikkim.
