Itanagar, Jan 26: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Monday felicitated the state’s archery team members - Thuten Dawa, Sonam, and Lobsang Tenzin Com - who recently won bronze medals at the prestigious Khelo India Games, bringing laurels to the state through their impressive performances.

During a courtesy meeting, the Chief Minister congratulated the archers on their achievement and praised their dedication, hard work, and commitment to the sport. He said their success reflects the growing sporting culture in Arunachal Pradesh and serves as an inspiration for young athletes across the state.
Khandu noted that the medal-winning performance of the archers demonstrates the immense potential of Arunachal Pradesh’s youth in competitive sports. He encouraged the athletes to continue training with determination and aim for greater success at national and international levels.
“Your achievement has made Arunachal Pradesh proud and inspired many young sportspersons to pursue excellence,” the Chief Minister said while extending his best wishes for their future competitions.
During the interaction, Khandu also unveiled the running trophy for the upcoming Dorjee Khandu Archery Championship, which is scheduled to be held in Tawang in February. Named in honour of former Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu, the championship is expected to attract talented archers from across the region and provide a platform for identifying and nurturing emerging talent.
The Chief Minister said the championship would play an important role in promoting archery, a sport deeply connected to the traditions and culture of many communities in Arunachal Pradesh. He expressed hope that the event would encourage greater participation among young people and contribute to the development of the sport at the grassroots level.
The trophy unveiling ceremony was attended by members of the Tawang District Archery Association and Zilla Parishad Member Sonam Nordzin, who welcomed the government’s continued support for sporting activities in the district.
Reaffirming the state government’s commitment to sports development, Khandu said efforts are being made to strengthen sports infrastructure, provide better training facilities, and create opportunities for talented athletes to excel. He emphasized that supporting sportspersons and investing in youth development remain key priorities for the government as it works to establish Arunachal Pradesh as a strong sporting state in the country.
