Imphal, January 19: A joint team of security forces on Sunday destroyed approximately 22 acres of illegal poppy cultivation in the Dampi area under Sangaikot Police Station in Churachandpur district, according to an official statement issued by Manipur Police.
The operation was carried out on January 19 by a combined team comprising security forces, the Forest Department, the Narcotics Affairs Branch (NAB), and an Executive Magistrate. During the drive, three huts found at the poppy cultivation site were also destroyed by burning.
Police further informed that 10 samples of poppy plants along with pods were seized from the site for further examination and legal procedures.

The destruction drive forms part of the state government’s ongoing efforts to curb illegal poppy cultivation and narcotics-related activities, particularly in vulnerable and remote hill areas of the state. Authorities have reiterated that such operations will continue as part of a sustained campaign against drug trafficking and cultivation in Manipur.
