Imphal, January 19: Film screenings, song performances, and musical events organised in residential localities and public parks across Manipur will be suspended from February 1, 2026, in view of the upcoming school examination season. The decision has been jointly taken by the Film Forum Manipur and the All Manipur Sound Service Association (AMSSA) to help create a peaceful and distraction-free environment for students preparing for their examinations.

In a joint press release issued on Monday, the two organisations said the temporary suspension is aimed at supporting students by minimising noise and disturbances during one of the most important periods of the academic year. They observed that entertainment programmes involving loud sound systems in residential neighbourhoods often continue late into the evening, making it difficult for students to concentrate on their studies.
The organisations emphasised that education should be given priority during the examination season and appealed to the public to extend their full cooperation. They said maintaining a quiet atmosphere is a shared social responsibility that can positively contribute to students' academic performance and overall well-being.
While announcing the restrictions, the Film Forum Manipur and AMSSA clarified that the decision applies specifically to film screenings, song performances, and musical events held in residential areas, public parks, and neighbourhood locations. However, they noted that such programmes may still be organised in designated halls, auditoriums, and other approved venues, provided that all events conclude by 10:00 p.m.
The organisations urged event organisers, cultural groups, sound service providers, and the general public to strictly comply with the guidelines. They also requested that organisers avoid seeking exemptions for programmes in residential areas during the examination period, stressing that the welfare and academic interests of students should remain the top priority.
According to the joint statement, the measure reflects a long-standing practice adopted in the state to ensure that students are not distracted by excessive noise during board and other important examinations. The organisations expressed confidence that community support would play a vital role in helping students prepare effectively.

The Film Forum Manipur and AMSSA further appealed to citizens to demonstrate responsibility and solidarity by observing silence and discipline throughout the examination season. They reiterated that the temporary suspension of entertainment activities is intended solely to support education and help students perform to the best of their abilities, thereby contributing to a brighter future for the state's youth.
