Security Forces Recover Arms, Communication Equipment; Two Drug Peddlers Arrested in Manipur

Imphal, January 19: In a series of coordinated operations, security forces and police recovered arms, communication equipment, and narcotics from different parts of Manipur, officials said on Monday.

According to Manipur Police, security forces on January 19 recovered two Baofeng wireless handsets and one P-cap from the Sugnu area under Sugnu Police Station in Kakching district.

In another major recovery on the same day, security forces seized a large cache of arms and ammunition from the hill range area between Wainem and Aigejang under New Keithelmanbi Police Station in Kangpokpi district. The items recovered included five bolt-action rifles, one pistol with an empty magazine, one .22 mm pistol with an empty magazine, seven 12-bore cartridges, two .22 mm rounds, one ‘pompi’ launcher, and one pompi round.

Meanwhile, in an anti-narcotics operation, security forces arrested one Hriili Kaihrii (65) of Mayangkhang Khunou, Kangpokpi district, from the Phougakchao Ikhai Bazar checkpoint under Phougakchao Ikhai Police Station in Bishnupur district. Eight soap cases containing suspected heroin powder weighing approximately 94 grams were recovered from his possession.

In a separate incident on January 18, Manipur Police arrested Md. Ajmir Hussain (39) of Chingdong Leikai, Jiribam district, from the Tengdongyan area under Sekmai Police Station in Imphal West district. Police recovered 310 grams of Heroin No. 4 from him.

Police officials stated that these operations are part of intensified measures to curb illegal arms circulation and drug trafficking in the state. Further investigations are underway in all cases.
