Etalin, January 30: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Thursday chaired a coordination meeting with power developers at Etalin to review the progress of major hydropower projects planned and under implementation in the region. The meeting focused on accelerating project execution while ensuring sustainable development, environmental responsibility, and benefits for local communities.
During the review, discussions were held on the status of the 3,097 MW Etalin Hydroelectric Project (HEP) and the 680 MW Attunli HEP, both of which are currently under implementation. The Chief Minister also reviewed the progress of several hydropower projects that are presently under survey, including the 500 MW Emini HEP, 420 MW Amulin HEP, and 400 MW Mihumdon HEP.
Together, these projects represent a planned generation capacity of 5,097 MW, highlighting the strategic importance of the region in Arunachal Pradesh’s hydropower development plans. Officials and developers discussed project timelines, statutory clearances, land-related matters, infrastructure requirements, and coordination among various stakeholders to ensure smooth implementation.
Addressing the meeting, Khandu emphasized that hydropower development must be pursued in a manner that balances economic growth with environmental sustainability. He stated that while hydropower remains one of Arunachal Pradesh’s most valuable natural resources, project development should also prioritize ecological protection and the welfare of local communities.
The Chief Minister stressed the importance of ensuring that people living in project-affected areas receive tangible benefits through improved infrastructure, better connectivity, employment opportunities, and enhanced socio-economic development. He said that local participation and community welfare must remain central to all major development initiatives.
Khandu also highlighted the broader significance of hydropower projects in strengthening India’s energy security and contributing to the country's growing demand for clean and renewable energy. He noted that successful implementation of these projects would not only generate revenue for the state but also support national efforts toward sustainable energy production.

Calling for close cooperation between power developers and government agencies, the Chief Minister urged all stakeholders to maintain regular coordination and address challenges proactively.
