In a statement issued on Monday, the outfit said its Naga Army tactical unit targeted the 4th Assam Rifles camp at around 8 am. It claimed that casualties, if any, could not be independently confirmed as the area was subsequently locked down by security forces. Terming the attack a “necessary step,” the group accused Indian security forces of harassing civilians and asserted that it would continue its operations to “defend the Naga homeland.”
Security sources, however, said the attack took place at around 8:45 am during Republic Day celebrations. The Assam Rifles camp at Ranglom, located close to the India–Myanmar border and about 10 km from the Changlang district headquarters, reportedly came under fire in what is believed to be a joint operation involving cadres of ULFA (Independent) and NSCN (K-YA).
Following the assault, Assam Rifles personnel launched a counter-offensive. No injuries have been reported so far, according to security officials.
In the aftermath of the incident, security has been tightened across the border areas, and a joint operation has been launched to track down the militants involved.
