MNF Seeks CBI Probe into Alleged Irregularities in Lengpui Airport Land Deal

Aizawl, January 24, 2026: The Mizo National Front (MNF) has demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the alleged sale of land at Lengpui Airport to the Indian Air Force, claiming large-scale irregularities and violations of legal procedures.

MNF Seeks CBI Probe into Alleged Irregularities in Lengpui Airport Land Deal

Addressing a press conference at the Aizawl Press Club, MNF Treasurer Lalruatkima alleged that the process of transferring land at Lengpui Airport to the Indian Air Force was riddled with serious lapses and illegalities.

Lalruatkima claimed that soon after assuming office, the ruling Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) government had initially attempted to sell Lengpui Airport to the Indian Air Force. However, following strong public opposition, the move was temporarily halted. He alleged that the government later revived the plan quietly by moving files “through the backdoor” and hurriedly pushed the process forward by bypassing several legal provisions.

The MNF treasurer further alleged that within 70 days of issuing a preliminary notification, compensation amounting to Rs 188 crore was disbursed, not to the rightful landowners but to intermediaries involved in the process. He described the transaction as one of the fastest land acquisition exercises in Mizoram’s history, carried out without due diligence.

Claiming that the ZPM government projects itself as a transparent administration, Lalruatkima said the alleged Lengpui land deal represented the largest instance of illegal land acquisition in the state. He further alleged that the Chief Minister and senior government functionaries appeared to be deeply involved in the matter.

Demanding accountability, Lalruatkima said all individuals who benefited illegally from the land acquisition, including officials and middlemen, must be identified and punished in accordance with the law. He asserted that only an independent investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation could uncover the truth behind the deal.

The MNF leader also claimed that Mizoram had become increasingly unsafe under the ZPM government and said the demand for implementation of the FCAA 2023 was gaining clarity in this context. He added that the MNF has consistently maintained that it has nothing to hide and reiterated the party’s demand that the state government grant general consent to the CBI to conduct an impartial investigation into the matter.
