Aizawl, January 23, 2026: The Public Health Engineering Department, Mizoram (PHED) and the Central Young Mizo Association on Friday signed an agreement extending their long-standing collaboration focused on water conservation and sanitation across Mizoram.
Officials said the PHED–Central YMA partnership, which has been in place since 2012, has yielded significant results in protecting water sources and promoting their sustainable use. Between 2017 and 2025, the collaboration also made notable progress in hygiene and sanitation awareness, encouraging clean and healthy practices among communities.
The joint initiative is guided by two core objectives: conservation and sustainable management of water resources in the state, and fostering a culture of cleanliness and hygiene-driven development. Authorities noted that while the programme has delivered encouraging outcomes, substantial work remains, prompting the proposal to extend the collaboration for a further two years.

Both organisations reaffirmed their commitment to deepen community participation, strengthen awareness programmes, and accelerate efforts to safeguard water resources and sanitation standards across Mizoram in the coming years.
