Aizawl, January 23, 2026: The State-Level Sub-Committee on Green Mizoram convened a review meeting on Friday at the Chief Wildlife Conference Hall, Khatla, to assess the implementation and impact of the Green Mizoram 2025 campaign across the state.

The meeting was chaired by Rajeev Kumar Tiwari, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF). N. C. Saravanan, Chief Conservator of Forests (HQ), delivered the welcome address. Representatives from the Central, Northern, Southern and Eastern Circles of the Forest Department attended, along with officials from Rural Development & Administration, Land Revenue & Settlement, and the Information & Public Relations Department, Mizoram (I&PR).
The meeting also saw participation from the National Service Scheme (NSS), Central YMA, and several environmental organisations, including ASEP, STAM, CEP, Green Mizoram Network, and SENVA.
Addressing the gathering, PCCF Rajeev Kumar Tiwari said sustaining Mizoram’s clean environment, fresh air and rich wildlife requires a strong partnership between the government and the public. He emphasised that conservation and expansion of the state’s natural wealth is a collective responsibility of every citizen, not limited to any single department or organisation. He also underlined the need for intensified awareness campaigns to educate people on their role in environmental stewardship.
Progress reports presented during the meeting highlighted encouraging outcomes from afforestation efforts:
Central Circle: Lalramnghaki, ACF, reported distribution of 25,645 saplings in 2025, with an 80.13% survival rate after physical verification.
Northern Circle: Indhu Vijayan, CF, said 2,240 saplings were planted across 27 sites in three villages, achieving an average survival rate of 89.63%.
Wildlife Division: M. Z. Singson, Chief Wildlife Warden, reported a 93.24% survival rate among 1,510 saplings planted in the Dampa Tiger Reserve and the Aizawl, Khawzawl and Chhimtuipui Wildlife Divisions.
Southern & Eastern Circles: Andrew Lalthlamuana, ACF, detailed the distribution of indigenous and flowering species such as Herhse, Tlaizawng, Chawnpui, Bul and April par.

The committee concluded the session by deliberating on strategies for sustained maintenance of the 2025 plantations and outlining enhanced education and outreach programmes to promote forest conservation and the importance of tree planting across Mizoram.
