Haflong, January 23: In a significant move to promote grassroots sports and youth engagement, the Dima Hasao Autonomous Council (DHAC) on Tuesday handed over 31 appointment letters to outstanding football players who excelled in the CEM’s Cup, MAC Cup, and the Inter-Polling Football Tournament.
Announcing the initiative, Debolal Gorlosa, Chief Executive Member of DHAC, said the appointments reflect the council’s commitment to strengthening sports at the grassroots and inspiring the younger generation to pursue athletics and stay away from negative influences. The distribution included one appointment from the CEM’s Cup, two from the MAC Cup, and 28 from the Inter-Polling Football Tournament.
The ceremonial event was attended by senior DHAC leaders and dignitaries, including Chairman Mohet Hojai, Deputy Chairman Amin Leinthang, Dima Hasao Prabhari Vijay Kumar Gupta, District BJP President and MAC Dhriti Thaosen, Executive Members, MACs, and CDC Chairmen from various constituencies.
To mark the occasion, the District Sports & Youth Welfare Department and G.A.D., DHAC jointly organised a friendly football match between CEM’s XI and Chairman’s XI at Sengya Sambhudhan Phonglo Mlaoyam, Haflong, adding festive spirit to the programme.
Officials said the initiative is expected to create pathways for talented sportspersons, reinforce a culture of sportsmanship, and contribute to holistic youth development across Dima Hasao.
