Mizoram Police Name Prime Accused in Tanhril Woman’s Death; Mob Sets House Ablaze

Aizawl, Jan 28, 2026: The Mizoram Police on Tuesday issued a statement in connection with the death of Marina Lalchhanchhuahi (26) of Tanhril Vengpui, whose body was recovered on December 13, 2025.

According to the police, RL Peka (62), also a resident of Tanhril Vengpui, was identified as the prime suspect and held responsible for the incident. Following the disclosure on January 27, angry residents of Tanhril Vengpui allegedly set fire to the house under construction belonging to RL Peka.

Police said RL Peka, who was suspected in the case, had been summoned to appear at the Zonuam Police Outpost on December 16, 2025. However, before he could be taken into custody, he reportedly fled from his residence and later died under circumstances that are still under investigation.

The police said further legal procedures are underway and appealed to the public to maintain calm and refrain from taking the law into their own hands, assuring that the case would be dealt with strictly in accordance with the law.
