Sports Minister Honours National Medallists at Felicitation Ceremony in Aizawl

Aizawl, Jan 27, 2026: Mizoram Minister of State for Sports & Youth Services, Lalnghinglova Hmar, on Tuesday felicitated national-level sportspersons from the state at a special honouring ceremony held at his office in MINECO, Aizawl.

The felicitation programme recognised athletes who brought laurels to Mizoram by winning medals at prestigious national competitions held across the country. Among those honoured was Lallianmawia, IPS (Retd.), who won a gold medal in the 25m Centre Fire Pistol (Senior Master Men Category) at the 34th All India G.V. Mavlankar Shooting Championship held in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, from October 31 to November 1, 2025.

Also felicitated were Vanlalramdinpuii, who secured a silver medal in the 57 kg category at the National Sub-Junior Judo Championship held in Hyderabad from November 16 to 20, and Jeho Hlimnakulhpuingheta, who won bronze medals at the UTT National Ranking Table Tennis Championships held in Indore and Ranchi during November and December.

Addressing the gathering, Lalnghinglova Hmar congratulated the athletes for their achievements and stressed the importance of long-term planning for sports development. He said that while good coaches and infrastructure are important, the most crucial factor is the commitment and determination of the athletes themselves. He noted that even if Mizoram does not yet match other states in facilities and resources, discipline and hard work can still lead to success at the national level.

The Minister also spoke about the state government’s long-term vision for sports, linking it with India’s aspiration to host the Olympic Games in 2036. He said Mizoram has adopted a “Vision 2036” roadmap to ensure greater participation of Mizo athletes at the highest level, including the Olympics. Emphasising talent identification, he said the government would focus on selecting sporting disciplines with higher medal prospects and nurturing athletes accordingly.

The programme was chaired by Henry C. Lalrawnkima, Secretary of the Mizoram State Sports Council. Family members of the athletes, officials from various sports associations, coaches and managers were also present. Coaches and managers who played key roles in the athletes’ success were also felicitated during the event.
