Agartala, Jan 27: Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha on Tuesday alleged that Janajati communities in the state were deprived of adequate opportunities in education, infrastructure development and other important sectors during the tenure of previous governments. He asserted that the current government has prioritised the welfare and development of tribal communities and is working to ensure inclusive growth across the state.

In a statement shared on social media, the Chief Minister claimed that despite significant changes in the socio-economic landscape of tribal areas, certain political parties continue to make statements aimed at confusing and misleading Janajati communities. He said people are increasingly aware of the developmental initiatives being undertaken in tribal areas and are able to distinguish between political rhetoric and tangible progress.
According to Dr. Saha, the development of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) region has gained momentum in recent years through focused investments in infrastructure, education, healthcare, livelihood generation and welfare programmes. He maintained that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government has placed special emphasis on improving the quality of life of tribal communities and ensuring that development reaches remote and underserved areas.
“The people have realised that true and holistic development of the ADC areas is possible only under the leadership of the BJP,” the Chief Minister stated, highlighting what he described as the government's commitment to inclusive governance and balanced development.
Referring to a joining programme held in the Birchandra Kalsi Assembly constituency in South Tripura district, Dr. Saha said the event witnessed a large turnout and enthusiastic participation from members of Janajati communities. He described the response as spontaneous and indicative of growing support for the BJP in tribal areas.
The Chief Minister noted that the participation of tribal residents in political and developmental activities reflects increasing confidence in the government's policies and programmes. He said the administration has been implementing various initiatives aimed at empowering indigenous communities through education, employment opportunities, skill development and social welfare measures.
Dr. Saha also highlighted efforts undertaken by the state government to strengthen infrastructure in tribal regions, including improvements in road connectivity, healthcare facilities, schools and drinking water supply. He said these measures are intended to ensure that the benefits of development reach every section of society and contribute to long-term socio-economic progress.

The Chief Minister further stated that the government remains committed to protecting the rights, culture and identity of tribal communities while simultaneously creating opportunities for growth and advancement. According to him, sustained development in ADC areas is essential for the overall progress of Tripura.
Political observers note that tribal welfare and development continue to be significant issues in Tripura's political landscape, with various parties seeking support from indigenous communities that constitute a substantial portion of the state's population.
Dr. Saha concluded by expressing confidence that the growing engagement of Janajati communities in public and political affairs would contribute to the state's development journey. He said the government would continue its efforts to promote inclusive growth and ensure that tribal areas remain a key focus of Tripura’s development agenda.
