The oath of office was administered by Lawngtlai Deputy Commissioner Donny Lalruatsanga, MCS, at around 1:30 pm in the presence of district officials, council members and invitees.

Soon after taking charge, the new CEM announced key appointments to his executive team. Sanghuliana Mualchin was named Deputy Chief Executive Member, while Lalzahawma Chinzah, H.C. Lalengkima, and H. Vanlaltanpuia were appointed as Executive Members. Lalsawmzuala said the remaining members of the executive would be announced shortly, indicating that the council’s executive formation is still underway.

The swearing-in follows the approval of Lalsawmzuala’s appointment by the Governor of Mizoram, based on a claim submitted by the United Legislature Party. An official communication from the Governor’s Secretariat stated that Lalsawmzuala, leader of the United Legislature Party comprising the Mizo National Front (MNF) and the Indian National Congress (INC), had staked claim to form the executive with the support of 14 Members of the District Council (MDCs).

After examining the claim, the Governor approved the appointment under sub-rule (4) of Rule 21 of the LADC (CCB, etc.) Rules, 2010. The newly appointed CEM has been directed to seek a vote of confidence on January 29, 2026, a day after the first sitting of the council.
