Agartala, Jan 26: Tripura celebrated the 77th Republic Day with patriotic fervour, enthusiasm and solemn dignity at the Assam Rifles Ground in Agartala on Sunday. The state-level function was attended by dignitaries, government officials, security personnel, students and citizens, who gathered to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India and reaffirm their commitment to the nation’s democratic values.

The main ceremony was led by Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu, who unfurled the National Flag and inspected the parade contingents. The event featured ceremonial parades by various security and uniformed forces, showcasing discipline, dedication and service to the nation. Cultural performances by students and cultural groups added colour and vibrancy to the celebrations, highlighting the rich cultural diversity of Tripura and the spirit of national unity.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Nallu emphasized the importance of preserving and strengthening the ideals enshrined in the Constitution. He called upon citizens to uphold the principles of democracy, equality, justice and fraternity while working collectively towards the vision of a developed and prosperous India.
The Governor paid tribute to the freedom fighters, martyrs and national leaders whose sacrifices made India’s independence and democratic system possible. He said Republic Day serves as a reminder of the responsibilities that accompany the rights guaranteed by the Constitution and urged citizens to contribute actively to nation-building.
“Republic Day is not only a celebration of our constitutional heritage but also an occasion to reaffirm our commitment to unity, harmony and collective progress,” he said.
The ceremony was attended by Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, Member of Parliament Rajib Bhattacharjee, Chief Secretary J. K. Sinha, Director General of Police Anurag Dhankar, senior civil and police officers, public representatives and invited guests.
Ahead of Republic Day, government buildings, educational institutions and public offices across Tripura were decorated with the national tricolour, lights and patriotic displays. The festive atmosphere reflected the enthusiasm and pride with which citizens welcomed one of the country’s most significant national celebrations.
Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Manik Saha unfurled the National Flag at his official residence on SPM Lane. Extending greetings to the people of the state, he urged citizens to draw inspiration from the Constitution and work together for the progress and development of Tripura and the nation.
In his message, the Chief Minister emphasized the importance of unity, democratic values and inclusive development. He called upon people from all communities to contribute towards building a stronger and more prosperous society based on the principles of equality and social harmony.
Later, Dr. Saha noted that the Republic Day celebrations at the Assam Rifles Ground reflected the spirit of patriotism and national pride. The disciplined marches, impressive parade displays and cultural performances served as a tribute to India’s democratic journey and its achievements since becoming a republic in 1950.

Officials said Republic Day celebrations were also held in district headquarters, schools, colleges and institutions across the state, where flag-hoisting ceremonies, cultural programmes and patriotic events were organised.
