ATDC Chairman Rituparna Baruah said the proposal is being explored following the successful hosting of an international concert by Post Malone in Assam, which showcased the state’s potential as a destination for global music events.
Baruah stated that efforts are underway to organise the proposed Shakira concert in Dibrugarh, though discussions remain at a preliminary stage and no official confirmation has been made so far. He said the initiative aligns with Assam’s broader strategy to promote concert tourism and position the state on the global cultural map.

If finalised, the event would rank among the biggest international pop concerts ever held in Upper Assam and is expected to give a significant boost to tourism, hospitality and allied sectors in the region. Officials believe such large-scale events could also enhance local employment opportunities and strengthen Assam’s profile as an emerging hub for international entertainment.
The proposed concert forms part of the state government’s efforts to diversify tourism offerings beyond traditional heritage and nature-based attractions, leveraging global cultural events to attract national and international visitors.
